CGPA Calculator: SGPA to CGPA and CGPA to Percentage: This free CGPA calculator works out your Cumulative Grade Point Average from the SGPA and credits of each semester, the way Indian universities do. It gives:
- your credit-weighted CGPA for any number of semesters, or a simple average when credits are not known;
- CGPA to percentage by the three common formulas: CGPA × 9.5, CGPA × 10 and (CGPA − 0.75) × 10;
- a target CGPA planner showing the SGPA you need in the remaining semesters;

CGPA Formula: How to Calculate CGPA From SGPA
Multiply each semester's SGPA by its total credits, add the results, and divide by the total credits of all semesters. This is the rule in university regulations such as AKTU's: CGPA = Σ (Ci × Si) ÷ Σ Ci, where Si is the SGPA and Ci the credits of semester i. CGPA is on a 10-point scale and is usually shown to two decimals.

CGPA = 723.6 ÷ 89 = 8.13. As a percentage, that is 77.24% by CGPA × 9.5, 81.30% by CGPA × 10 and 73.80% by (CGPA − 0.75) × 10.
CGPA to Percentage: Which Formula Applies?
There is no single national formula. Each university or board sets its own, and many print it on the marksheet or in their regulations. The three in common use:

The (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 formula is often called "the AICTE formula" online, but AICTE's own scholarship guidelines use CGPA × 9.5. Always use the formula your university states. If it states none, give the CGPA itself on job and admission forms, or the percentage with the formula used.

Credit-Weighted CGPA vs Simple Average of SGPA
CGPA is not the plain average of your SGPAs unless every semester has the same credits. A semester with more credits counts for more.

Use No credits (simple average) only if your university's rules say so or the credits are not known.
Target CGPA: SGPA Needed in Remaining Semesters
In the default example, 4 semesters give 723.6 credit points over 89 credits. For a final CGPA of 8.5 with 4 more semesters of 22 credits (88 credits): (8.5 × 177 − 723.6) ÷ 88 = 8.874, so you need an SGPA of at least 8.88 in each remaining semester. The highest CGPA still possible is 9.06. The calculator rounds the needed SGPA up, so the target is met.
Percentage to CGPA Conversion
Reverse the formula your university uses: percentage ÷ 9.5, percentage ÷ 10, or percentage ÷ 10 + 0.75.

SGPA vs CGPA vs GPA
- SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average): one semester, from the grade points and credits of its subjects. Work it out with the SGPA calculator.
- CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average): all semesters completed so far, from the SGPAs and credits.
- GPA: a general term; in the US it is usually on a 4.0 scale, so it is not the same as an Indian 10-point CGPA.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you calculate CGPA from SGPA?
Multiply each semester's SGPA by its credits, add the results and divide by the total credits. SGPAs of 8.2, 7.8, 8.5 and 8.0 with 20, 22, 24 and 23 credits give 723.6 ÷ 89 = 8.13.
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

How do I convert percentage to CGPA?
Reverse your university's formula: divide by 9.5, divide by 10, or divide by 10 and add 0.75. 75% is 7.89, 7.50 or 8.25.
How much CGPA is first class?
Each university sets its own cut-offs. AKTU, for example, gives First Division for a CGPA of 6.5 up to 7.5, and First Division with Distinction for 7.5 or above when every subject is passed in the first attempt without grace marks. Check your university's regulations.
