An HRBP in India typically earns between ₹7 lakh and ₹21 lakh a year, with a median of around ₹11.6 lakh in base pay, according to Glassdoor's data from 385 reported salaries. Entry-level HRBPs average about ₹5 lakh; experienced HRBPs with ten or more years average about ₹16 lakh (Payscale, 2026).
You will find figures far outside that range online, from under ₹4 lakh to over ₹40 lakh. Most of that spread comes from what each source counts, not from the job itself. This guide puts the main sources side by side, explains why they disagree, and works out what each salary level actually pays per month after tax.
HRBP Salary in India at a Glance
| Source (sample, date) | Typical range | Midpoint |
|---|---|---|
| Glassdoor (385 salaries, 2026) | ₹7.1 lakh – ₹21.2 lakh (25th–75th percentile, base) | ₹11.6 lakh median base |
| Payscale (2026) | ₹4.2 lakh – ₹30 lakh (10th–90th percentile, base) | ₹9.8 lakh average base |
| Indeed (47 salaries, March 2026) | ₹4.2 lakh – ₹15.1 lakh (10th–90th percentile, base) | ₹8.0 lakh average base |
All figures accessed 3 October 2026. They are base salary, which excludes bonus and variable pay, so total CTC is usually higher.
Why Published HRBP Salaries Differ So Much
Three sources, three different midpoints, all describing the same job title. Before trusting any single number, it helps to know why.
- Base pay vs total CTC. Glassdoor, Payscale and Indeed mostly report base salary. An offer letter shows CTC, which adds variable pay, employer PF and gratuity. Comparing an offer CTC with a base-pay benchmark makes the offer look better than it is.
- The title means different jobs. Some companies call a generalist role "HRBP"; others reserve it for senior advisors to business heads. Both end up in the same salary pool.
- Small samples. Indeed's Hyderabad figure, for example, rests on three reported salaries. A handful of high or low reports moves the average a long way.
- Self-reporting. All of these figures are reported by employees, not verified payroll data.
- Estimates presented as data. Some published guides give bands far above employee-reported pay. Keka's HRBP salary guide, for instance, quotes ₹18–22.5 LPA for freshers in metro cities, several times what Payscale reports for entry-level HRBPs. Treat any guide that does not state its sample size and date with caution.
The practical rule: compare like with like (base with base, CTC with CTC), use at least two sources, and look at the range, not just the average.
HRBP Salary by Experience
Payscale is the only source here that publishes HRBP pay by experience band. Its 2026 figures for average base salary:
| Experience (Payscale band) | Average base salary | 10th – 90th percentile |
|---|---|---|
| Entry-level (under 1 year) | ₹5.09 lakh | ₹2.5 lakh – ₹10 lakh |
| Early career (1–4 years) | ₹6.89 lakh | ₹3.4 lakh – ₹10 lakh |
| Mid-career (5–9 years) | ₹10.21 lakh | ₹5.2 lakh – ₹20 lakh |
| Experienced (10–19 years) | ₹16.16 lakh | ₹7.8 lakh – ₹30 lakh |
Payscale also reports an average base of ₹14.94 lakh for the separate title Senior HR Business Partner, and ₹15.11 lakh for HRBPs who list business strategy as a skill. That last figure is worth noticing: business skills are associated with pay well above the overall HRBP average.
On freshers: true HRBP roles for people with no experience are rare. Most freshers enter as HR executives or associate HRBPs supporting a senior partner, and Payscale's entry-level figure reflects that small group.
HRBP Salary by City
City data is thinner than national data, so read it as direction rather than precision.
| City | Glassdoor median base | Indeed average base |
|---|---|---|
| Bengaluru | ₹13.6 lakh (113 salaries, March 2026) | Sample too small to use |
| Pune | ₹11.15 lakh (29 salaries, December 2025) | ₹10.4 lakh |
| Gurugram | Not checked | ₹9.2 lakh |
| Hyderabad | Not checked | ₹8.8 lakh |
| Mumbai | Not checked | Conflicting figures across Indeed pages; not used |
Glassdoor puts Bengaluru 21% above its national HRBP average, the highest premium among the cities with usable data. Keka's guide also ranks Bengaluru and Mumbai highest. Indeed city averages are from its India page (47 salaries, March 2026).
HRBP Salary at Indian Employers
Company pages on AmbitionBox show how much the same title varies by employer. These were the pages with clear ranges at the time of writing:
| Company | Annual salary range | Experience covered |
|---|---|---|
| PwC | ₹8.1 lakh – ₹21 lakh | 3–11 years |
| Blue Star | ₹6.0 lakh – ₹14.9 lakh | 1–10 years |
| E2E Networks | ₹8 lakh – ₹10.1 lakh | 8–12 years |
| vivo | ₹3 lakh – ₹10 lakh | 2–11 years |
AmbitionBox pages dated "updated 2025", accessed 3 October 2026. Industry matters too: AmbitionBox shows PwC's HRBP pay 14% above the average for management consulting firms, and Tech Mahindra's 36% below the average for IT services firms at similar experience. For a specific employer, check its AmbitionBox or Glassdoor page directly and note the number of reports behind the figure.
From CTC to Monthly In-Hand Salary
Whatever the benchmark, what you live on is the monthly credit. The table below shows in-hand pay at CTC levels across the HRBP range, using the same assumptions as HR Calcy's salary negotiation guide: FY 2026-27, new tax regime, Basic at 50% of gross, metro HRA, Karnataka professional tax, PF on the ₹25,000 wage ceiling, full year, no variable pay.
| Annual CTC | Where it sits for HRBPs | In hand per month |
|---|---|---|
| ₹6,90,624 | Early career | ₹50,000 |
| ₹10,00,000 | Around the national average | ₹75,176 |
| ₹12,00,000 | Glassdoor national median | ₹91,451 |
| ₹15,00,000 | Senior HRBP average | ₹1,08,665 |
| ₹20,00,000 | Upper quartile | ₹1,41,958 |
| ₹25,00,000 | Lead / head roles | ₹1,72,751 |
| ₹30,00,000 | Top 10% | ₹2,01,047 |
One band deserves a warning. Between roughly ₹13.4 lakh and ₹14.2 lakh of CTC, take-home pay stays almost flat under the new regime because of marginal relief, so a raise inside that band adds very little each month. Many mid-career HRBP offers fall close to it; the salary negotiation guide explains why and what to ask for instead.
Your own structure will differ. Run your offer through the CTC to in-hand salary calculator, and use the salary breakup calculator to see the components.
HRBP vs HR Manager vs HR Generalist Pay
Direct comparisons are unreliable because the three titles overlap and companies use them differently. Two patterns hold in the data above. First, pay rises with business exposure: Payscale's figure for HRBPs with business strategy skills is about 55% above the overall HRBP average. Second, the jump in pay comes with scope, not title. A generalist who moves into an HRBP role supporting a single team may see little change; one who becomes the HR partner to a business head usually sees more. Compare the grade and reporting line of an offer, not just the title.
How to Move Into a Higher HRBP Band
- Build business acumen. The clearest pay signal in the data is the premium for business strategy skills. Learn to read your unit's P&L and talk about people decisions in rupees.
- Take scope, not just title. Supporting a larger or more critical business unit moves pay more than a title change.
- Document outcomes. Attrition reduced, critical roles filled, a restructuring delivered: these are what justify the next band. The HRBP roles and responsibilities guide shows the KRAs at each level.
- Negotiate on in-hand, not CTC. Know the monthly figure you need and work backwards, as the negotiation guide shows.
- Show structured learning. A verifiable credential helps when you are moving from a generalist role. The HRBP certification covers the business partnering skills behind the higher bands.
