6th Pay Commission Pay Fixation Formula
- The 5th CPC basic pay on 1 January 2006 is multiplied by 1.86; the result, rounded up to the next multiple of ₹10, is the pay in the pay band.
- If that is below the minimum of the revised pay band, pay is fixed at the minimum.
- The grade pay of the post is added to get the revised basic pay.
| Example | Basic pay × 1.86 | Pay in pay band | Grade pay | Revised basic pay |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic ₹6,500, GP 4200 | ₹12,090 | ₹12,090 | ₹4,200 | ₹16,290 |
| Basic ₹2,750, GP 1800 | ₹5,115 → ₹5,120 | ₹5,200 (PB-1 minimum) | ₹1,800 | ₹7,000 |
In the first example, the next increment on 1 July is 3% of ₹16,290 = ₹488.70, rounded up to ₹490, added to the pay in the pay band.
